Economy 12 gives 12 low-rate hours a day: 10 hours somewhere between 19:45 and 08:15, and 2 hours somewhere between 12:00 and 16:40. The times belong to the property, so check your meter or ask Guernsey Electricity. It suggests charging EVs between 11pm and 5am where possible. There is no dedicated EV tariff. The heat pump tariff (14.15p) is only for permanently connected heat pumps. (Guernsey Electricity, tariff PDF)
Installing a charger
Chargers up to 3.6 kW only need registering. Faster chargers need an additional-load application first (Guernsey Electricity). We found no States of Guernsey grant for home chargers or EV purchases.
Public charging
The States own four sites, North Beach, Salerie, Odeon and La Crocq Pier, each with two 7.2 kW units. Start a session with the Plug-N-Go app or fob; parking is limited to 3 hours with a parking clock (gov.gg). Plug-N-Go prices range from 45p to 79p per kWh by site, with no session or membership fee (Plug-N-Go).
Fastest public charger in Guernsey: 22 kW AC at Co-op St Martin's (Plug-N-Go). There is no public DC rapid charging on the island (seen on site, 24 Oct 2026; some online listings still show older DC units). Price: check the Plug-N-Go app.
Fuel prices
The States do not publish an official island-average pump price. Across 22 forecourts, the island average was 186.6p a litre for unleaded and 200.1p for diesel, with the cheapest at 179.0p and 194.5p (prices updated 22 Oct 2026; GSY Fuel Prices (gsyfuel.co.uk), community-reported forecourt prices, checked 24 Oct 2026). ATF Guernsey, one retailer, listed 176.90p and 190.90p on 15 October 2026 (ATF). Fuel duty is 90.5p a litre in 2026. The 2027 Budget (P.2026/82, debate due 3 November 2026) proposes changes; nothing is approved yet.
First Registration Duty
Duty is charged once, by CO₂. EVs count as 0 g/km, so they pay the lowest band: £121 including the £59 registration fee. Petrol bands then run £282 (111–130 g/km), £741, £1,065, £1,389, £1,847, £2,294 and £2,853 (231+ g/km); diesel bands are stricter (gov.gg, Ordinance 2025). A new FRD Ordinance 2026 is part of the 2027 Budget.
Planned transport tax changes (not in force)
The States have agreed in principle to cut fuel duty by 25% and add an annual vehicle tax that would include EVs. It would be based on weight and emissions, from about £25 to £280 a year (median around £132), with a 400 kg weight reduction for EVs, plus a surcharge of £2,500 or more on first registration of cars worth over £50,000 (gov.gg transport taxes). No start date is published on the official page.

Prices with and without VAT/GST
Guernsey has no VAT or GST, so the price you pay has no sales tax in it. The States agreed a tax reform package in October 2026 that plans a GST from 2028/29 (gov.gg); this table will change if that happens.
