Latest figures
- 100 miles in an EV costs about £2.79 on a smart home tariff, £8.36 at the price cap and £22.86 on public rapid chargers, against £17.59 for a 45 mpg petrol car (November 2026).

Methodology
- Sources: we only use official sources: Ofgem, government statistics such as DESNZ weekly road fuel prices, and suppliers' and charging networks' own price pages. Each figure links to its source and shows the date we checked it.
- How often we check: public charging prices are checked at least monthly and the index is published monthly. Energy price caps are updated each quarter when Ofgem announces them. Tariff rates are rechecked when a supplier changes them, and at least monthly.
- VAT: we show prices with and without VAT where it matters. UK home electricity has 0% VAT from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027. Public charging has 20% VAT.
- Averages: simple averages or medians of published list prices. They are not weighted by usage, and we say so next to each one.
- Corrections: if a supplier changes a price, we update the figure and the checked date. Report an error with our feedback form.
- No tracking: the site sets no tracking or advertising cookies. We count page views without cookies or personal data (see our privacy policy). Any affiliate link is labelled (see our affiliate disclosure).
