Head to head
- Everyday rate: Jersey (22.20p including GST) is cheaper per unit than Guernsey (26.01p).
- Off-peak: Jersey's Economy 7 night rate (11.74p) beats Guernsey's Super Economy 12 low rate (13.12p), but Guernsey gives 12 cheap hours instead of seven.
- Heating: Jersey's Economy 20 Plus gives 20 discounted hours at 15.53p for heating and hot water.
- Exports: Guernsey pays 9.90p. We couldn't verify Jersey Electricity's export rate today.
- Versus GB: the GB cap average is 26.32p (no VAT, October–December 2026), close to Guernsey's Standard rate and higher than Jersey's General Domestic.
What a year might cost
For a home using 3,500 kWh a year, Jersey's General Domestic comes to about £865, or about £757 on Economy 7 if 40% is used at night. Guernsey's Super Economy 12 comes to about £1,073 with half at the low rate, partly because of its higher standing charge.
See the numbers
| Tariff | Units | Standing/service charge | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jersey General Domestic (incl. GST) | £777 | £88 | £865 |
| Jersey Economy 7, 40% at night (incl. GST) | £652 | £105 | £757 |
| Guernsey Super Economy 12, 50% low rate | £716 | £357 | £1,073 |
| Guernsey Standard | £910 | £357 | £1,268 |
Guernsey Standard's standing charge is £89.35 a quarter, the same as Super Economy 12 (Guernsey Electricity, checked 2 Nov 2026). The night shares are assumptions.
Which tariff for which home
- EV at home: Guernsey Super Economy 12 or Jersey Economy 7/8, charging in the cheap hours.
- Heat pump: Jersey Economy 20 Plus, which Jersey Electricity lists as compatible; Guernsey Super Economy 12.
- Low use, no electric heating: usually a single-rate tariff.
Solar and batteries on the islands
Guernsey's 9.90p buy-back rate makes using your own solar worth more than exporting it. See batteries in Guernsey and Jersey and our island solar planning guide.

Things to check on your bill
- Your tariff. It's named on the bill. Electric heating or an EV on a single-rate tariff? A two-rate tariff might save you money.
- Meter type. Two-rate tariffs need a suitable meter. Ask whether changing costs anything.
- Price dates. Guernsey's current prices started on 1 July 2026 and Jersey's on 1 March 2026. Check for changes before relying on these figures.
- Tax. Jersey prices include 5% GST, Guernsey has none, and GB electricity has 0% VAT until 30 June 2027 (HMRC VAT Notice 701/19, checked 2 Nov 2026). Bear that in mind when comparing.
Why island prices are different
Each island has one main supplier, with prices set locally rather than by Ofgem's cap. So island prices don't follow GB's quarterly changes, and GB offers like smart EV tariffs aren't available. When reading GB-focused advice (including some of ours), swap in your island rates.
